Power Supply Remains Stable During Peak Hours, Says Power Division

ISLAMABAD: The Power Division on Wednesday reported that electricity supply remained stable during peak hours despite increased demand from provinces.

In an official statement, a spokesperson said improved water releases from dams enabled the generation of 5,125 megawatts (MW) during peak time. Additionally, around 400MW of electricity was successfully transmitted from the southern region to the central grid, reflecting enhanced grid stability.

The spokesperson noted that distribution companies (DISCOs) managed to maintain relatively steady supply, limiting load management to one to two hours in most areas. However, economic load management will continue on feeders with high losses, in line with policy, and is distinct from peak-time load shedding.

The statement added that peak-time load shedding is expected to be eliminated once sufficient supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are secured. Currently, about 5,500MW of generation capacity remains idle due to LNG shortages.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari has taken serious notice of DISCOs purchasing electricity from small producers in violation of the merit order. He has directed all companies to ensure procurement strictly complies with regulations set by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.
